DNS Problem

Hi … recently I got a DNS attack I suspect … First of all, anyone can tell me if AVAST Premier has DNS shield?
I cannot connect to Internet nor using Wfi nor using cable. Cable worked during a time until they did something I think, not sure, but I have no access to internet with my laptop. Please can you help me?

I run ipconfig/all to see information and DNS data were in blank, they dissapeared from one day to the other. I use a router to connect to internet.

Now I entered safe mode, uninstalled Premier, and now installing again. But I guess this won’t return me the DNS right?

Thank you

Malware does not block the internet as that would negate it’s purpose. Does your wireless card work

yes works fine I could navigate with my phone and another laptop I have, but the other laptop that had Avast informed me that all shields were up unless the DNS shields. And the error when connecting was about DNS … I am in the Avast Premier and I cannot find where to shield up the DNS as the Avast system says when I check my Avast profile … any idea?

Could you run the following on the affected system

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.

[*]Right click to run as administrator (XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File). When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
[*]Select additions at the bottom
[*]Press Scan button.

[*]It will produce a log called FRST.txt in the same directory the tool is run from.
[*]Please attach both logs generated.

Attaching what the web Avast account tells me

And the error when I tried to connect was about DNS … So where I can put ut the shields please? I installed again the system, updated it and the system still reports me this is down? …

Thank you

I am going to try, I will let you know … thank you …

What I previously did was

  • Run Superantispyware program in safe mode - it found tracking cockies

  • Uninstall and install again Avast in safe mode but I still receive the message of DNS down, in the website and in the same Avast program in my laptop.

  • Change all pasw in the router.

Now I will try your software and let you know. After all the changes I did I can navigate again but DNS still down and I am worried …

Thank!

What do you mean with DNS ?
Domain Name Server, Domain Name System or… ?
What OS/SP ?
What exact version of avast ?
Any other security (related) software installed ? (or was there)
What is it you are doing when you get a error ?
What is the exact error message ?
etc.

This is what you should see when you go to settings > active protection
Is secure DNS on there

essexboy this option DOES NOT appear in my AVAST Premier, is that correct? This is what I was looking for but it does not appear …I checked that screen with all the other buttons on and that one is not there …

I was doing nothing when I got the error, one night I suspended the system, the other day when I resumed DNS addresses were gone … nothing new installed, only AVASt running … so I see incongruence in what the website system says to me and the available options I have in AVAST.

Avast Premier 2015 (version updated itself to Premier 2016 when I re installed the program, but the DNS option continues not appearing in the bullet list of AVAST).

Thank you to both!

Secure DNS will only show in the avast menu if it is installed.

the other day when I resumed DNS addresses were gone
What DNS addresses ? Gone from where ?

Eddy

I refer when you check in the system them, they were in blank … wifi settings had only the IP address, but DNS number was empty.
Cable settings was all empty …

I would also need to know how to eneble DNS Secure as stated below … in the Avast website I am getting a warning, the red area, saying DNS is disabled but that I can set it up in the program, but when you go to the program in my laptop that option is not there as they show me below.

Thanks

If you want to use secure dns you need to install/enable it first.
Control panel > software > add/remove > avast > change

Hi Eddy

thank you for the answer … where I can find this menu? in the website or in the program?
I attach you a shot of my screen — also I have problems logging to my acount from here (red circle), it says there is no internet connection, but it is …

Thank you!
