do avast! web scanner work with Opera 8.54 / 9 ??

Hello again forum!

I wonder why I see details for scanned web objects only when surfing IE 6 (sp2) but not when doing the same with Opera Browser. If Opera works same way IE, I mean thru port 80 (HTTP), why I don’t see any details from avast! activity? Is web scanner working fine or it doesn’t support Opera?

Thank you in advance, you people at this forum rules

Kind regards

What version of Windows are you using?

For Windows 9x, you have to manually configure the browser proxy, as described here: http://www.avast.com/eng/faq-home-webshield.html
For Windows XP, the scanning is transparent, you haven’t to change anything.

Do you use a local proxy application? Like an annonimizer for instance?

Since martosurf is using IE6 SP2 he must be using XP SP2 a pre-requisite for IE6 SP2.

Thanks guys, DavidR you are right.

Want takes my attention is when surfing with IE6sp2 I see the details provided by avast! but don’t see anything -that is avast! don’t show anything- when surfing with Opera browser.

I don’t use any proxy nor Opera is configured to use another port than number 80.

Thank you very much

It is unfortunate that the avast team has not given a definitive answer to your question.

I would be a bit surprised if avast does not already include the Opera browser in its default browser scans. However, you can ensure that it is scanned by editing the avast4.ini file (found in Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA folder)

In the section headed:

[WebScanner]

Add the line:

OptinProcess=Opera.exe

Please make sure that Opera.exe is the correct executable for the Opera browser, if not then substitute the correct executable name. If the OptinProcess line already exists then the new executable name should be comma separated from any existing parameters.

Save the avast4.ini file

What do you mean: the Script Blocker (splash screen; avast trial or pro versions) or WebShield ?
WebShield should work.
Script Blocker is only for the avast Pro version (or the trial one) and does NOT work with Opera.

I refer to the WebShield module, I’ll try alanrf tip and let you know.

Tnx in advance

Well, I added OperaUSB.exe line to the avast4.ini file in the [WebScanner] section and I think avast! finally now scans Opera’s http connections BUT… I still don’t see any detailed info about this, only the blue logo spinning - which can be spinning because other activities too.

When surfing with IE6sp2 a fancy yellow dialog with blue caption opens from the lower right corner just above the traybar showing all the web objects being scanned but I DON’T SEE this happen with Opera… is this behaviour right?? How can I assure avast! is really scanning web connections???

Thank you very much guys

BTW: from some time ago I replaced standard Opera browser with the excellent alternative OperaUSB that don’t need installation, that’s why I use OperaUSB.exe instead Opera.exe as the process name.
