I’ve recently downloaded Adobe Reader 9 from this>>>http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html?promoid=DAFYK. I forgot to uncheck the eBay Desktop download so when I finished downloading I was surprised and had the impulse to immediately uninstall via Add/Remove the eBay Desktop(and also the Adobe.com on Adobe AIR) but…I’d like to take it a bit further so my question is: Can i also uninstall Adobe Reader 9 from my pc without bad effects(to my surfing, etc) since I already have Foxit Reader which have been getting good reviews as a tiny versatile PDF reader? Is there advantages of having Adobe Reader instead of Foxit?
Well, since you have it now anyway, try it out for a while.
I’ve noticed in recent versions (version 8, dunno about 9), Adobe has tried to lower the splash screen time, so that’s good. But, I also noticed it added something to the startup to help it go faster …
Besides, if you find it better than Foxit, keep it and uninstall Foxit. No point in having 2 PDF readers that do (mostly) the same things. I think having 2 PDF readers have the potential to mess up the file associations of PDFs and related.
My main fear is the amount of vulnerabilities that Adobe gets because of its popularity. Besides that, Adobe is never getting into my system again. Too bloated and too many bad experiences (many updates that were over dial-up and still have unexplained crashes).
Yes, you can keep only Foxit.
I’m not sure Foxit has a browser plugin to display .pdf files…
I am almost convinced now that my Adobe Reader has to go but the browser plugin question bothers me. In my Firefox under Tools>Add-ons>Plugins I have the Adobe Acrobat(Adobe PDF Plug-In for Firefox & Netscape) and I am now wondering will this plug-in also be removed once I proceed to uninstall Adobe Reader? Is this the Adobe Reader browser plugin that Tech is referring to? Foxit Reader, by the way, is my default PDF reader.
If the Adobe plug-in for Firefox doesn’t disappear after the uninstall, manually delete.
And I second Tech on Foxit: it does not have a browser plug-in to display PDFs in-browser. But, you can just download the file and view it from there.
I prefer PDF-XChange, it has got browser plugin.
I finally decided to just uninstall the eBay Desktop and Adobe.com on Adobe AIR and let the Adobe Reader 9 stay. I noticed that in my C:\Program Files\Adobe that I have 3 subfolders: Adobe Reader 7(69MB Setup Files), Adobe Reader 8(46MB Reader, Resource, Setup Files), and Adobe Reader 9(198MB Esl, Reader, Resource, Setup Files). Can I delete the Adobe Reader 7&8 subfolders already? I was just wondering why the “leftovers” when in fact when I installed Adobe Reader 9 I already okeyed the “uninstallation of older version of Adobe”.
I second that!
Bad uninstallation process. I suggest using Revo Uninstaller (http://www.revouninstaller.com/).
