Do I need all these services?

Hi malware fighters,

Do I need all these services, find the answer here:

The answer can be NO in more than one case,

polonus

Thought it looked familiar, it is effectively a copy of the old black viper site, which hasn’t been updated in some considerable time. So the information on this site too could well be out dated, read unreliable.

Hi DavidR,

This is all about XP. Some of us will stay with XP for some while to come. What were the changes for the services, that made them excludable change to have them include again?
And where can we find the information for a configuration that saves us from overbloatedness?
What I find irritating here is that on the one hand services that take on a lot of memory load, and every 1,5 MB must count for you on a slow connection, are included and the amount of half-open connections in XP and also Vista are restricted by default, with the excuse to have security against phishing, but with a limitation of PHP connections as a result. So where are the more recent configuration proposals/tweaks?

Well I would say that with the release of SP3 which has a few other things than just the collation of all security updates, thee might be some dependencies which won’t have been known about when the list was made.

So just the usual user beware and exercise caution.

Black viper has been updated to include services for Vista sp1 and XP sp3.

Excellent, there was a time when it was though that it wouldn’t get any further updates.

Hi marc57,
