Not sure where to begin.
This week…
Zone Alarm Free Firewall was saying I had no antivirus.
I checked and clicked Avast update to be sure. :o
It did update.
Today…
WinAudit is telling me my last Avast scan was 7/15/06.
Which Cannot be right… I try to scan weekly or at least by- weekly.
But…
Back around 7/15/06 I had a problem with my computer
freezing up during a system restore. And I ended up ??? with no avast antivirus on my machine . I couldn’t find it anywhere. So I redownloaded it. But Then I ended up with 2 icons and one trial version and the ? original showed back up ???
I deleted one.
All had seemed fine with my Avast for almost 7 months .
Except I noticed that lately I am getting an after
image left on my screen when I setup to start a scan.
Do I have a corrupt program?
Should I uninstall Avast and reinstall ?
If So How should I do this ???
Ignore this ZA notification, it has never recognised avast and many other AVs, I don’t know if this is mis-information in the hope you will buy there AV option.
Don’t take the WinAudit info at face value, check for yourself. First I doubt it would know when you last did an on-demand scan as that can only be what it is reporting, you would know when you last did an on-demand scan. When you first open the Simple User Interface (right click the avast icon, select Start avast! Antivirus), it will say when you last did a full avast on-demand scan. Also because of the resident on-access scanners and on-demand scan is less important, but I do one (Standard, without Archives) weekly as part of my regular system maintenance.
why were you doing a system restore ?
What is your firewall as this after image has been associated with one in particular one ?
Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this.
If that doesn’t work try, uninstall, reboot, install, reboot.
It would probably be best to first download the latest version of avast http://www.avast.com/eng/programs.html and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you reinstall.
3- I did a system restore on the advice of another forum .
4- My firewall is Zone Alarm Free 7.0.3
5- I did the Repair.
I did notice in my Avast Log Viewer 5/15/06 was when I started getting ERROR & WARNING 'S.
AAVM-Scanning error : X_AavmCheck… Then Error codes
too many to list. 128 - 1680.
After the Repair yesterday 5/25/07 I am still getting
Error code 1544 AAVM Scanning Error X_Aavm check.
What does this mean ?
Should I just disreguard or do I need to go ahead and uninstall & reinstall?
Still have a after image after scan setup . But this time doesn’t stay as long on the screen.
Since I did the repair program.
Image doesn’t last on screen now long enough for me to get a screen shot.
I will post one if it shows up again and stays.
