Do I need Web Scanner?

I have recently installed Avast free version after uninstalling AVG. Since installing it I have noticed that accessing websites in Firefox is a lot slower. I was wondering if it could be the Web Scanner part of the Web Shield that could be doing this. If I uncheck the “Enable Web scanning” checkbox, will this result in no data from the Internet being scanned by Avast or will I still be protected?

I uninstalled it from Programs and Features in Windows.

I have used the removal tool so AVG is definitely gone. But Firefox is still slower with Avast active. Can anyone confirm the effects of having “Enable Web Scanning” unchecked in the settings? Will this mean that nothing viewed with Firefox will be scanned by Avast or is it simply an optional extra which increases protection?

I do this.
I right click computer management and run as admin.

Then i click device manager and check for any phantom device drivers etc.
