In all honesty I think a lot of this is scaremongering, I don’t care about my IP address being known.

As for the rest of it, that would be worthless as to do the test I have to allow several redirects. If I don’t allow the page with NoScript nor did I allow any off site content (RequestPolicy add-on).

So without my active participation they would get nada.

not very accurate info it give

My netprovider… Norway. ???
location…Tromsø…yea right, that is 1900km up north

Well, I agree with you that with NoScript and RequestPolicy active, your browser is not going in any direction that you do not wish it to go.
The rest of the story is not scaremongering just establishing to be aware what a browser gives away. Interesting what results one will get behind a certain proxy. Maybe this thread would encourage more users to use NoScript or RP add-ons or likewise extensions in Google Chrome…
Right away the major part of the profiling is going on via specific third party scripts, web beacons and the like, where unwanted activities are being blocked by afore-mentioned extensions…

@Pondus,
That could because of a certain blocking to get to the exact geo-location and then it comes up with the nearest main location where you connect to your provider base.
If they cannot establish my exact geo-location, I am also some 100 miles off target…
It is also a proof the test is not that intrusive,…

I have found grc.com “shields up” test to be more reliable/intuitive.
Just saying. 8)

For me it was their making such a big deal (using Bold Red text) that my IP hadn’t been hidden/anonymized using JonDonym nor by Tor. When they start the ball rolling like that, to me it is no different to the rogue applications and their fake alerts, scaremongering.

Who really cares if the IP can be seen in the http/referrer information.

@ DavidR I know your IP will be shown but, what are your results when you run a GRC.com “shields up” test. Click on "all service ports.
I have only one port (443) open the rest are stealthy. Just curious.

All I’am giving away is my external IP address. and thats not giving anything away.To me the only way anuone can get anything is if I open the doors and let them in.Could happen with any security one might have on the PC. No need in being paranoid.

It is a totally unrelated issue, shields-up has nothing to do with privacy, all that shows is if your system is stealthed, e.g. doesn’t respond to outside port connection attempts. But mine has always be fully stealthed.

With all due respect privacy and security go hand in hand to a point.
Having HIPS helps protect your privacy.

You can have a fully stealthed system and it won’t stop any of the issues being checked for in that privacy test.

They are chalk and cheese no comparison. HIPS also has nothing to do with shields-up or that privacy test.

Well you can do something about a couple of issues, but that is only to protect against your individual browser easily being fingerprinted. Change the configuration of the browser so that it only will show three standard fonts, spoof the browser agent, etc. etc… When the browser is not default, the more it has on the more easily the unique browser configuration will stand out. As a lot of identifiable data are just part of the normal http protocol, it just shows how transparent a browser may be while surfing the internet… test that uniqueness here: http://panopticlick.eff.org/index.php?action=log&js=yes
