JUST WONDERING ABOUT THE MOVE TO CHEST FUNCTION. I UNDERSTAND WHAT IT DOES, BUT WHAT IS THE POINT OF IT IF THE NEXT TIME YOU START YOUR COMPUTER ALL THE VIRUSES GET ACTIVATED AGAIN? I DID A SCAN, MOVED THEM TO CHEST LIKE IT SUGESTED I DO, THEN THE NEXT TIME I PUT MY COMPUTER ON I DID ANOTHER SCAN AND IT FINDS THE SAME VIRUSES. DOES THIS MEAN THAT ITS PRETY POINTLESS AND ONLY KEEPS THEM IN THE CHEST UNTIL THE NEXT TIME YOU PUT YOUR COMPUTER ON?
Viruses sent to the chest stay in the chest
that said
there is malware that regrows itself
which may explain your repeated hits
send the virus in chest to virus total and post results back here ASAP
along with all of your system info, other programs used etc
try and give a complete path to where the virus was found
give it a google
etc
If it keeps coming back, there is likely to be an undetected or hidden element to the infection that restores or downloads the file again.
If you haven’t already got this software (freeware), download, install, update and run it, preferably in safe mode and report the findings (it should product a log file).
SUPERantispyware On-Demand only in free version. Or Spyware Terminator Resident scanner (if you use this don’t install the toolbar or crawler or the anti-virus module). Or a-Squared free. I suggest trying then in order as the order that represents the better detection and clean-up. Some elements of the programs might not work if you have an older OS like win9x or winME, this is namely the resident protection in SpywareTerminator.
What is the infected file name, where was it found e.g. (C:\windows\system32\infected-file-name.xxx) ?
Check the avast! Log Viewer (right click the avast ‘a’ icon), Warning section, this contains information on all avast detections.
What is your firewall ?
By the way, the CAPS LOCK key is above the Shift key on the left, ALL CAPS is considered Shouting, apart from the fact it actually makes it harder to read, certainly for me.
thanks allot for that. im a bit pushed for time at the moment but ill do what you both suggested soon. sorry about the caps, it was just cause i had them on previously for something else and forgot to switch them off.
Hi
Both sets of advice are appropriate Wyrmrider modestly postulates
If we knew what the infection agent was it would be easier to suggest a cure
but of course we can’t
When running ANY malware removal program double check any hits for false positives
virus total and google
hope to hear that you have had success soon
hi…just had my pc reformated and avast was installed for me…ive happend to pick up a virus called tenga-b the sirens went and it recomended i move it to the chest…it says something about win32 to…should i delete it or leave it in the chest…thank you
leave it in the chest for now
do the virus total submission-- how to is above
you might also want to scan with an anti-spyware program- suggestions also above
what did google show for your hit?
report back
if you do have a real hot file frequently there are “friends” lurking
BVVC- and Start a NEW Thread
do you have the complete path to where found?
Again I hate to keep banging on about the file name and location as it is a crucial piece of information. It is best to do this investigation (e.g. posting here) before jumping on the reformat option.
tenga could be associated with a number of things and one of these is have you used panda as it doesn’t encrypt its signatures and avast will detect them, tenga is just one of the common ones detected.
Deletion isn’t really a good first option (you have none left), ‘first do no harm’ don’t delete, send virus to the chest and investigate. There is no rush to delete them.
