Do you use your avast! web shield as ad-blocker in IE too?!

I do!
I’ve added some keyword to URL Blocking in avast! web shield to block some popular ads! any suggestion?!
now I’m happy about that because it block the additional traffic and also now I don’t need additional program that work as a BHO or Toolbar in my Internet Explorer to increase time needed to load IE main window

I’ll like to know a good ad blocker for IE… I think avast webshield is not designed to do so.
I use FF and AdBlock and I’m very happy without popups and ads.

yeah, I know about FF and Ad-Blocker PLUS and Element Blocker too
also for IE there are IE7Pro and SUPERAdBlocker. but avast! with those keyword is blocking most of the Ad and banners for me now!!! yes, it don’t block Popup

For IE simply download and use iePlus it has built in ad blocking and a whole lot more.

Thanks for the suggestion. Do you use it?

Only when I use IE which is not very often… ;D ;D

Ok, I’ll test it

Only when I use IE which is not very often.....

HI all,

Thank you DavidR, bob3160 and Tech for the suggestions and links. I’ll examine my options and see what best suits me.

Cheers

Your welcome.

Adblock Plus is the one to use in Firefox. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865
It has tremendous current support from its developer and the rest of the Adblock Plus team of contributors and filter set developers. The old Adblock that Tech linked hasn’t had any improvements for over three years and has no current filter sets.

-= Well… I don’t really use IE because based on what I heard and experienced… Mozilla Firefox is faster, customizable & more secure… In add-ons, I use Adblock, Flashblock & NoScript [even though avast has a script blocker… just to be twice secured…]

It does not have IE7Pro’s Tabbed Browsing Management, Spell Check, Inline Search, Super Drag Drop, Crash Recovery, Proxy Switcher, Tab History Browser, Web Accelerator, User Agent Switcher, AD Blocker, Flash Block, Greasemonkey like User Scripts platform, User Plug-ins, MiniDM, IE Faster and many more power packed features.

I like its Accu Weather Plug in and YouTube download.

Can’t they be used together, side by side?

emmmm, yeah, you right, it’s faster and customizable, but I cannot trust it as more secure, IE has more capability to be more secure, just if you want… IE would open any site in the best possible view, it has anything a browser need, especially IE 8 is going to very very better, Crash Recovery per tab, better management for Add-ons , InPrivate browsing and many many great features.

NoScript is a good add-on, but it’s annoying for long times usage, oh… keep allowing every new domain that you want to visit… no… I don’t like it, I prefer avast! script blocking and SpywareBlaster for IE…

Omid, for 90% of the sites, you can visit them without using their scripts. So, you do not need to grand access to NoScript, just let it blocked
