Documents and settings corrupted and unreadable?

Hi, I logged on and keep getting a message that some file in documents and settings is corrupt and unreadable. This previously happened in my local setting as well. I can’t access my emails now ^^ I have turned of system restore.

What is causing this, A virus that hasen’t been caught yet? Harddrive Errors, Processes?

I’ll list processes, error events or anything that you need

Hi, Husk.
Just been looking through some of your posting history. Fascinating read. It would seem to me that this is related to problems you’ve been having going back to before August.
You’ve posted a few times about various computer failures, motherboard/harddrive being replaced, and quite a large number of malware infections.
I can’t help but think that it’s highly likely that this current problem is related to the earlier problems. It appeared that some of them were hardware related, maybe, inadequate power supply, things not seated correctly, or overheating. Or maybe not…you didn’t ever seem to follow any of the recommendations up.
(That absolutely is not a criticism, but just to let you know it makes the helpers’ jobs a bit harder.)
Or it is also entirely feasible that the problems are related to malware - there appears to be indications of at least one rootkit in past posts - that you may have thought had been fixed, but hasn’t.
Or (forgive me if this is an assumption) it appears clear that you like things to be ordered within the box, and don’t want anything there you didn’t put there. And have, in your well motivated attempt to clean it up (I’ve done this :-[) deleted an important file. Which has, to use a technical term, borked your OS.
Didja ever start to think it might be time to totally reformat the hard drive, and reinstall Windows from scratch? It actually might be easier in the long run. (A bit of research/learning/preparation would be advised before commencing that procedure) And if that doesn’t fix it, at least you know it’s a hardware issue.

Or maybe the computer is haunted or possessed.

It’s an absolute hoot that a Kaspersky user is posting for help in the Avast forum. (How Piscean ;D)
I totally admire what you are attempting to do (fix your computer), I don’t think you’re unlucky - but you have been plagued with ongoing problems - and wish you every bit of luck in fixing the beast.
If I can help, I will.

Nice story, It’s just half the time I have no idea what anyone is talking about ^^ I’m not as smart as the others and I have no idea if it’s gone or not etc. I highly doubt I have deleted any files. Could be malware, But would it do this? Probably?. My mum will be taking it to be fixed soon (Which it won’t) =P, I’ll try get an actual new model?? It might be something in the harddrive not compatible with something? I’ll check power supply when mums gone to work.

And I use these forums because I trust you more. It’s better here. I’ll be getting avast again when my full version expires (On my birthday ^^)

Now it doesn’t seem to be corrupted, everything works normally now.

Great - so what changed between then and now?
You have to try to isolate it to do any good, just like making one and only one change at a time.
