After the last update 25/09/2014 there was a very small pre-ticked box that allowed the update package to install “Dropbox”.
I find this kind of marketing underhanded as a small tickbox within an install package is least likely to be noticed (especially by novice users) and is seems hypocritical of an anti-virus anti-malware corporation.

There was no program update today.
And this (as well as many other things) have been talked about and explained many times before on this webboard.

Why don’t you attach an image of the page you are referring to so people know what they are voting on? Also, is this a free version or paid version of avast that you are using? If it’s a free version, then I’m all for avast recovering some of the cost associated with development. If you don’t pay attention, whose fault is that?
I believe that the user is referring to a program update he/she installed.
I can attest to the popup in the first screen that appears after the requested re-boot.
I also agree with Charyb that unchecking an item you may not want, is a small price to pay to get excellent protection totally free of charge.
In the paid version, there is an option to block all of these types of popups.
offering dropbox is not a malicious act. dropbox is free, with the option to pay for more space, and it doesn’t do anything malicious. It works similar to OneDrive. This offer is also a small price to pay for being able to get virus protection for free.
Many folks have a similar first impression, then they realize (as with everything they do on the computer) that if they pay attention and don’t just click the biggest button things will go better. Avast can easily be configured to exclude the packaged extraware.
Avast teaches us to be vigilant and wary of hidden motives in technology, and those are Good Things.
