Does Apple Do Windows? --- You bet you!!!

Apple today announced availability of a download feature named Boot Camp that will allow Apple MacBook
and other Apple Intel platform owners to run Windows XP on their computers.
This is big news for those that were considering Apple, but hesitated at losing the ability to run certain
Windows based programs they needed and is likely to make Apple notebooks (the MacBook Pro and upcoming iBook) much more appealing.

More info available HERE

Ohohoho… let’s check what Apple has in store… ;D

Kyle ? Any discounts for your forum pals yet ? ;D ;D ;D

I think Apple shot itself in the foot by switching to Intel cpu’s. :frowning:

I think Apple shot itself in the foot by switching to Intel cpu's
Actually, I think this is a great growth potential for apple. It's what a lot of people have been waiting for.

OK … I guess what I meant was that I see this as getting near the end of Apple OS.
Apple will be in a few years, I think, just another pc maker. :frowning:

That sounds so pesimistic Charley  Do not say that twice please… ;D ;D ;D although, what you are saying could also be true (hope not).

For people like me, this is really great opportunity, so we would be able to enjoy all those wonderful pluses OSX offers, and in the same time, all those minuses and the biggest one among them, not being able to run certain wonderful PC applications, we could solve with just one simple OS-switch…

Still… the biggest problem when it comes to Apple is still here, and I’m 100% certain it will not wanish just because we blink our eyes… the price of all those Intel-run machines.

I hope Apple OS will not disappear also. Various OS’s are needed to keep up competition and continued technical advances. The current trend is, though, the assimilation of services/programs with the ultimate end of elimination of competition. Bloatware, another form of this same trend, is also quickly on the rise.

This will not be good for any of us as computer users. :frowning:

First look at Windows XP on a Mac

Apple’s name is built not only on hardware and not only on software: but the experience that comes from both together molded into one machine. I don’t think you’ll see a lot mac moving to windows, or becoming a purely based windows operating system. And on the otherhand, I don’t think you’ll see mac stopping their hardware department either. I think this move isn’t even news worthy, there have been emulation programs for awhile now.

there have been emulation programs for awhile now.
This isn't an emulation. :)

Boot Camp Basics: How to Setup Win XP on an Intel-Based Mac

Windows security on your Mac

Exactly… this is far from simple emulation. Quote from the site:

Apple gives the people what they want: Windows on Macs. Geeks proved it could be done through a variety of complicated hacks, and now Apple makes it a breeze with a free download. We take Boot Camp for a test run.

This is very important news and if it wasn’t, I am sure Apple wouldn’t even bother to play with these things. This helps designers all around the World to be even more efficient. I see it around me… my good friend and long time work buddy, just sold his PC because he doesn’t need it any more. Thousand and few hundred bucks right into his pocket. He will keep his brand new Mac (Intel driven btw) and in the same time, he will be able to run all his wonderful PC-only applications on it… thanks to this product.

Wonderful article Bob ! :: thumbs-up ::

I like this one in particular:

The point here is not to scare Mac users out of trying Windows (or Windows users from buying an Intel-based Mac) but to encourage everyone to become a good Internet citizen. There are risks associated with every operating system--no software is immune to security vulnerabilities. But with Windows clearly dominating the world market, the criminal hackers have had a head start in attacking Windows-based systems. There may yet be equity ahead. And when that happens, I'll post how Windows users can remain safe on Macs (or Linux).

Now gamers and other prople with windows only software can enjoy the mac too.

and the mac expierence starts at $599 with the mac mini. remember to protect your weindows partition from virus/spyware as this is windows actually running NOT IN EMULATION. and apple includes all the drivers needed
