Does Avast 4.5 use more system resource?

Hi,

I just wondered has anyone else noticed their computers being slowed down when using avast home 4.5 (Am using latest non beta edition)? I definatly found version 4.1 quicker.

I have used Avast for around a year and found it a great program but since the latest program update I noticed a noticable pause when opening internet explorer or Outlook express and when surfing web pages?

I fully apreciate that all virus scanners will slow down the computer to some extent. Just to check this I uninstalled Avast and have put on Dr Web (trial version) and the computer runs a lot quicker.

Just thought I would see if any other users have noticed this and whether its a bug or just heavier version than 4.1.

I am running Windows XP SP2, Script Sentry, XP Firewall and 1.8 athlon XP processor.

Once again I just want to say again how good avast has been and I guess the pause is still aceptable (and home edition is free!) but with Dr Web there is vertually no pause at all.

Thanks

Jlo

No change concerning speed between 4.1 and 4.5…

::slight_smile:

Thanks for your feedback.

Maybe its something with my settings. I did not change them when I upgraded to 4.5.

Not to worry.

Thanks anyway

Kind Regards

Jlo

There are quite a few files changes associated with this upgrade, using the defagmentor in system tools might help?

:oI have noticed when using Outlook Express & downloading messages from my hotmail.com a/c it takes ages “10 / 15 minutes”. ???

:)No problems with downloading from pop a/c.

This thread is not related to your question, not to mention it is over 5 months old and relates to a different version of avast!
