This combination of version numbers 7.0, 8.0 and build numbers .1488, which is only associated with avast 8.0 not 7.0. It may well have something to do with the version you had 7.0.1466. This wasn’t the latest avast 7.0 version, that was 7.0.1474. So I don’t know if issues in 7.0.1466 may have been resolved in 7.0.1474.

I suspect that the update would end up as version 8.0.1488 not 7.0.1488.

Personally I would do a clean install of of avast 8.0 (this assumes you are using the free version).

  • Download the latest version of avast, 8.0.1488 http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again (if you didn’t save your last download). Use that when you reinstall.

  • Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, aswClear.exe find it here and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for all versions).

    1. Now uninstall avast! - using add remove programs, if you can’t do that (as appears to be the case) start from the next step, reboot.- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility, it will request it be run from safe mode (and will handle the boot into safe mode), for 7.x, once complete reboot into normal mode.- 3. install the latest version, reboot.

You may want to backup the avastUI > Settings > Maintenance > Settings Backup if you have made many changes to the avast default settings. You can then Restore these setting to avast 8.0.1488.
