Does Avast block emails from Earthlink?

Hi,

I installed Avast yesterday and now emails that come from my provider, earthlink.net, don’t get delivered. Emails that come from other sources, such as the ones from my business, come through fine. I used a browser to see that their are emails at earthlink.net/webmail and even tried to forward them from their to my outlook mailbox but they don’t arrive. Is Avast somehow blocking them? What can I do to fix this?

Thanks for your help,

Dan

Do the emails from other sources come to the same email program you’re using?
By the way, which program do you use to manage emails?
avast shouldn’t block anything. It’s an antivirus and not a firewall.
Do you use a firewall? Which one?
Is ashMaiSv.exe allowed to connect into firewall settings?

Well avast isn’t an anti-spam and has no email domain blocking functionality.

Do you have any other security anti-spam software that monitors/scans or filters email ?

First please clarify … are you using an email client to read your mail or are you using a Web browser (IE/Firefox) to read your mail?

If (as I suspect) you are using a mail client please tell us which one you are using. If you are using a mail client then there are certain circumstances where using avast could block the creation of a connection to your mail server. We would need to ask for some more details to confirm this.

I’m using Outlook to read emails and my firewall is Comodo Firewall Pro. I’ll check to see that the firewall isn’t the culprit.

Thanks!!!

Into the firewall settings, the following programs should be allowed to connect:

C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashWebSv.exe (avast! Web Scanner)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashMaiSv.exe (avast! e-Mail Scanner Service)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Setup\avast.setup (avast! Update executable). This is a temporary file that just appears when an update (check) is about to launch, and disappears again afterwards.

Don’t need rights to connect:
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashServ.exe (avast! antivirus service)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\aswUpdSv.exe (avast! Update Service)

If you are using Outlook (not Outlook Express) then please be sure that you are using the Outlook/Exchange provider of avast. This is the preferred method for Outlook and will avoid any issues that I referred to above.
