Does Avast pick up Keyloggers in general?

I recently had 2 virus warnings an Autorun.infand a winudpmgr.exe than was thinking does avast detect keyloggers etc?
Any answer would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Generally speaking, yes, avast! does detect most keyloggers.

Thank you so much, puts my mind to rest

and if you think you have Malware

Check your computer for Malware with

Malwarebytes Antimalware http://filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
after install click UPDATE and run cuick scan, click on REMOVE SELECTED to quarantine anything found

SUPERAntiSpyware http://filehippo.com/download_superantispyware/
Are cookies really spyware and are they dangerous?

If anything is found come back and post the scan logs here

you have to turn PUP detection on in order to detect keyloggers (PUP detection is off in default settings)…

how do i turn pup detection on?
im also running 4.8. not 5.

That functionality isn’t in 4.8 (just one reason to update to avast 5.0), but some keyloggers are detected under the normal signature method.

So you advise i upgrade to 5?
and how would i go about this i heard people have had issues with 5.
also would my lisense i have atm still cover?

First I don’t know what avast version you have 4.8 home or pro ?
Two methods:

  1. install over the top of 4.8, this would retain the license information of your existing installation and remove 4.8 also (some not all {I didn’t}, mainly those on XP had a problem with this in the earlier released version).
  2. do a clean install of 5.0:
  • Download the latest version of avast http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-downloadl and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you reinstall.
Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, find it here the aswClear5.exe one (it has uninstall tools for both 4.8 and 5.0), and save it to your HDD.
    1. Now uninstall 4.8 (using add remove programs), reboot.- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility from safe mode, first for 4.8 if previously installed and then for 5.0, once complete reboot into normal mode.- 3. install the latest version, reboot.

If you previously had the Home, free version then it is easier to do the clean install (as above) and use the new registration process in the avast User Interface (UI), which will give you 12 months registration.

If you previously had the 4.8 pro version then download the 5.0 pro version and an install over the old version would retain the information otherwise you would have to convert your 4.8 pro license so it can be used in 5.0 pro, more on that if you have the pro version.
