I recently battled to remove a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program), a toolbar called Incredibar, installed on one of our computers by my teenage child’s visits to dubious corners of the Web. When I discover Ask Toolbar taking over my browser, I also know that I’m in trouble. The only way I could remove Incredibar, was by installing SpyBot, which recognized it as malware and removed it. I don’t like keeping the savage Spybot running on my computer though. I only use it when I’m snared by a malicious toolbar.
Will Avast Pro recognize and remove Incredibar and similar PUP’s?
maybe…and only if you activate pup scan…since pup is not malware it is default off in quick/full scan
i would remove SpyBot and install malwarebytes as and extra scanner. it is the best removal tool around
just remember to always hit the update button before you scan as they release around 10 updates a day
Thanks for the advice. I’ve been in the grips of Incredibar. Earlier a similar PUP took over my browser and affected my system to such an extent that a reinstallation of Windows seemed the only solution. I read on the Web that only Spybot will take out these toolbars. Spybot indeed recognised the malicious toolbars as malware and removed them. But Spybot also wanted to scan my system on restart and went into an endless loop on doing this restart-scan. So I’m happy to hear about a possible alternative. Will it take out something like Incredibar? I own Superantispyware Pro and it does not recognize and remove PUPs.
malwarebytes is usually one of the best at these toolbars that does not have a uninstaller
