Does Avast recognize the Java Malware?

Hi. I am just curious if Avast would recognize if your computer has the Java Malware that’s been all over the tech news websites. I kept getting messages asking for permission to update Java over the past week. I googled java to get to Oracle’s website and saw the news articles pop up. I quickly uninstalled Java since I don’t absolutely need it. I ran a scan with Avast and it said my PC is clean. But, being that the Malware is new, would Avast catch it if I did have it? And how would I know if I did have it? Thanks for your help.

Avast has for some considerable time included JAVA exploits and malware in its signatures and this will either already be covered or would be pretty soon.

In all honesty I wouldn’t be worrying about that but whether you really need JAVA at all, it isn’t an essential/integral part of the OS. So if there are no sites or applications that require it and you absolutely have to use those sites/applications, I would remove it completely.

Thanks for your help. I did uninstall it as soon as I saw all the news articles.

the virus vendors work with malware 24/7… so let them worry about it
when you read it in the tech news, they have already know about it for some time…
where do you think they get the news from.

You’re welcome.

Removal is the best policy currently (unless absolutely essential) as there seems to be new exploits notified at a rapid rate.
