Does Avast stop new versions of Thunderbird working?

I currently use Mozilla Thunderbird V24 with no problems at all but when updating to v45 or even V52, while I can read incoming, it does not let me send any outgoing e-mails
my Avast is V17.4.2294 ( Build 17.4.3482.0)

so will Avast have need any settings to be changed?

It doesn’t block TB.
Go over all mail settings in TB as well as in avast to make sure they are correct.

Don’t know if it still applies, but you might need to add the avast certificate to TB.
