Well, that. Do I need to keep aswclear for older versions of avast or avastclear covers all versions (old and new)?
thx!

Well from my understanding, avastclear.exe is for Version 9/
aswclear.exe is the removal utility for versions 8 and Lower.
Since there is only one file name on the http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility page and that is avastclear.exe, my assumption would be that it is for all versions.
I haven’t physically tested that, if it isn’t, then thee really should be both versions on that page available for download.
Agreed David.
I have not tested either but kept the two different utilities separate through out various beta testings.
That’s exactly why I’m asking…
Well are you going to be using it to do a clean install soon, if so then just use the avastclear.exe, it will still suggest booting into safe mode to run it and will handle the boot into safe mode.
When run in safe mode you would then have access to the drop down list of avast programs and you can confirm if it does include the other avast programs and versions or just avast 9 (which I doubt).
It doesn’t show versions, only the “Editions”.
BTW, I might be wrong, but it seems that avastclear.exe self destructs after use, can someone confirm this?
(it happened to me once, I ran it and afterwards it just disappeared)
Some are reporting that in the forums, obviously I haven’t experienced this as I haven’t used the new one.
Best to keep a copy somewhere safe and copy it to the desktop for use, etc.
Yeah, now that’s what I’m doing, copying it somewhere and keeping my original copy safe.
