Does Not Do Full Scan

I purchased a new PC yesterday and installed the latest version of Avast Home, after un-installing the trial version of Norton Anti-virus that came with the new system.

I’ve run 2 virus checks so far for C and D drives using the “thorough” option. However, although it indicates no infections found, there is also a list of over 100 entries that carry the notation that they are unable to be scanned :o Some of them consist of Lavasoft (McAfee Privacy Guard, but not their anti-virus program) but others are folders which in no way should impede a scan.

Any suggestions or thoughts on the matter would be greatly appreciated!

This has been explained in many threads on this board already. Please use the search option before asking.

Avast (as well as any other av) can not scan password protected archives or archives that are in a format that is not supported.

Encrypted files can also not be scanned.

avast can’t scan files that are password protected, it doesn’t know the password.
There are many legitimate reasons why a file was password protected. For intance, the ones you’re talking about. Lavasoft stores its data in a password-protected ZIP archives (to prevent other similar tools from messing up with them). It’s really nothing to worry about - it’s normal.

Welcome

Thanks to both posters for their replies. I have not had a computer for so long I sometimes forget about posting, searching etc.

I appreciate your help

You’re welcome to avast forums… No need to apologize
