During the routine scan Avast version 4.7 Home Edition couldn’t scan a file, namely amsdata.dat, used by one of the applications… Avast couldn’t also place it in quarantine so I used the command ‘move to’ and placed the file in the folder C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\moved with the ending changed to .vir However, as a result I have more than 1200 of this file in there with different numbers and file amsdata.dat still in the original place as well… is it false alarm or should I remove this file or whole application?
It doesn’t isolate files in the same way as the chest does as you can still access files in the moved folder, the changing od a file name to original.exe to original.exe.vir would effectively stop it being run but it isn’t isolated. By far the best option is to move to the chest.
The originals shouldn’t be in place in the original folder though. Why did avast say it couldn’t move the file/s to the chest ?
Files in the moved folder can be detected again on avast scans or other third party security scans, which can’t happen if they are in the chest.
Hi
The reason you moved the files, is because avast couldn’t scan them? No other warning?
