Does the free product offer automatic program updates ?

I’m new to avast! and I’m sure I read somewhere that automatic program updates are not available in the free version of the product, but that might be old information ?

I have my settings as follows, currently on 9.0.2007 :-

  • Program Update set to Automatic Update
  • My computer is permanently connected to the internet
  • Auto-update every 240 minute
  • All three options ticked

The Update window reports there is a new version available, but is not doing anything with it automatically.

TIA for any help.

Nigel

Yes… but program updates are spread over weeks to ease server load

You can always do it manually if you want it now…

Thanks, Pondus. Good to know, although I suppose that with new program updates coming out quite frequently, there is a chance I could never make it to the top of the auto-update queue ?

The release of program updates generally isn’t that frequent, but in the case of a major upgrade like avast 2014, is still very early days.

Makes sense, DavidR.

I started using the product at the tail end of the 2013 versions, so I saw 2014 and versions 2006, 2007 and 2008 released quite quickly. I expect that should slow down at the 2014 platform stabilises and then it’s not too much of an issue.

Manual updates for the timebeing, I think.

Cheers,

Nigel
