Does the offline updater (vpsupd.exe) work for anyone else?

I want to use Avast Free on my XP machine that has no internet connection, but i need to test it out first.

I installed it on my own W10 machine and tried to update via vpsupd.exe but it gives me an error: Cannot open SFX archive. Installer cannot continue.

Downloaded from here: https://www.avast.com/en-gb/download-update

I even downloaded all 3 just to see if i was crazy.

Installed Avast on another machine and still get this error.

  • Which version…?
  • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

Well i have yet to install it on my XP machine, since i cannot get it to work on my W10 machine.

Im using Avast Free V11.1 on a W10 62-bit with nothing else security installed. I had malwarebytes installed before Avast.

There is indeed something wrong with the standalone vps updates.

But why not use the automatic updates or update through the GUI ?
Connecting the XP system to the internet shouldn’t be hard to do.

Sorry, i edited my first post. I am not connecting my XP to the internet for my own reasons, that is why im using the vpsupd.exe. But yet i cant test update with vpsupd even on my W10 machine that is connected to the internet.

Again, which version of Avast Free…?

The version doesn’t matter.
All the standalone vps updaters are not working.

Hi Eddy, did you try it…??

Ofcourse I did or I wouldn’t be able to tell that they are.

Roger that, so the devs have to look into it.

Thanks guys

You’re welcome.
