my pc has sevice pack2 :-[
and the first thing BlackVipers say is that the info is for SericePack3 and up.
i have checked the Startup programs though, through Msconfig…i had unchecked all the programs whose names i recognized except for the antivirus.the start up after the “welcome” sign shows up has become better…but before that when the "windows"logo is running…it stays there for 40 seconds
Here is the SP2 service configuration info. (Blackvipers menus are all down the left margin of his site, which is comprehensive.)
At some stage you should consider getting SP3. It won’t slow Windows down. It includes several security updates; there will almost certainly be a lot of updates available for download after installing SP3.
AFAIK SP2 is no longer supported.
Maybe try and resolve some of your immediate problems, first. here is a download site for the full SP3 pack. Save it somewhere, maybe to a new folder. (It’s big. 316MB.)
oh
i didn’t look on the left side,i’m sorry.very ignorant of me :-[
i’ll get that service pack3,although it makes me a little apprehensive…cuz i’m not that computer savvy.
It’s fair enough being a little concerned about major changes to your computer. For sure, on the odd ocassion, things can go wrong for a (usually)small percentage of users.
SP3 is a fairly big update to apply, and there is a chance you’ll need to get the latest version of the Windows installer to apply it, but that’s something to be aware of for the future, if the file doesn’t run.
Step-by-step suggestions can be posted, if you like.
Do you happen to have Ccleaner installed?
Did you run the defragger linked by essexboy?
Did you download the tool (Startup lite) linked by Pondus?
(The above are not instructions/suggestions; I just want to know where you’re at, so far. And please don’t bother about apologizing for apparent “ignorance”, everyone (yours truly included) is ignorant about all sorts of stuff. Being ignorant of something and not asking…now that would be a bit stoopid. ;D
You can also check your boot speed and process with http://soluto.com (freeware).
i downloaded the startup lite.ran it.no effects
i don’t have cCleaner(as far as i know)
and i’m gonna do the defrag in a few hours.
You can also check your boot speed and process with http://soluto.com (freeware).okay i'll download this Anti-frustration software too.Thank you. :)
i have downloaded it
I do not recommend Soluto on a low resource system!
It hung my XP Pro system and I have even removed it from my Windows 7 system as it slowed boot time too much.
it says itself that it takes 20sec to load…but my “system” is taking 65seconds to load :o…at least ,because of soluto,i got to know which component is making more mess. ![]()
65 seconds in a slow system is not that bad… sure.
Please, post a screenshot of soluto (see how: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=8982.0).
You can use Gadwin PrintScreen to get a screenshot (http://www.gadwin.com/printscreen/) or the free version of WinSnap 1.1.10 (http://www.filehippo.com/download_winsnap/?2173).
Please go to PROFILE then Modify Profile then Forum Profile Information then Please select your country: then Signature: and put information about your system just like my signature about your system just like my signature so that the helpers can offer pertinent advice.

bijspace, there is nothing more to do… it’s a slow machine… only an upgrade will solve this.
I’m not sure that all the “delayed” applications/services will help as your “post boot” time will be difficult.
This is a machine to keep on most of the time, rebooting only when necessary.
how can i upgrade the system?
anyways, thank you everybody for your help.
Install at least 512 mb more of RAM and upgrade to SP3.
The least a computer with XP should run is at least 1 GB of RAM.
okay thanks alot ![]()
I upgraded my XP Pro system to 1.5GB RAM but SP3 is a MUST as it provides MANY Security Updates and performance improvements.
bijspace
If you have a pirated version of XP then you will be out of luck. ![]()
Lets give the benefit of doubt without making unfounded accusations.
bijspace, something to try, if you want.
Download CCleaner - the slim version is probably best as it doesn’t install a toolbar - (bottom of this page ) and install it.
Open the program and under “tools” click the “startup” tab, and then the button at the bottom right that says “save to textfile”, save it to your desktop.
Post the content of the textfile (you can copy and paste it into a forum post, or attach it) and I’ll have a look to see if anything else can be trimmed.
As the others have said, getting a bit more RAM is the way to go, but this is something that can help maximise what you have.
