I’m running Windows 10. I put a password on Avast.
I opened Chrome to check email and then I got a message that something was trying to access Avast.
I logged out of everything, rebooted the machine –
and then continued working normally without any further
message from Avast.
Does Windows 10 try to access Avast for any reason?

It is the other way around.
avast is scanning/checking things.

Okay – Does Avast ever “make a mistake” and pop up the message that some program is trying to access Avast?
Something happened on my machine that caused Avast to post the message.
No ghosts in the machine, mind you…
Also, can you tell me where in the Avast Forum settings I can request that
the Forum send me an email when someone has posted a reply to my question?

I’ve never seen (or heard that) avast showing a message that something is trying to get access falsely.
What was the exact message (screenshot will help). ?

Okay – here is a screenshot I created – it’s the same message I always get when
I click on the Avast icon in the lower right corner of Windows to open the Avast interface.
Only this thing popped up by itself about 30 minutes ago.

Does it still show if you open Chrome to check your email ?
Does it happen if you open Chrome and try to visit a site (e.g. Google.com ) ?

It only showed up when I first logged on. Since then I’ve been working ahead on my
projects, both online and my local machine – no problems.
Would Avast toss up this message randomly?

Would Avast toss up this message randomly? No, only when something is trying to change/access avast or part of it.

Okay – last question on this topic, and I thank you all for your answers.
If I wanted to find out what triggered the event that Avast detected, can you tell me
where I look in Window’s logs?

I would look in the avast logs first.

I found the logfiles here:
C:\Users\All Users\AVAST Software\Avast\log
There are many logfiles in the folder.
9 of them were updated yesterday.
Hns.log
AvastUI.log
aswAr.log
PushPin0.log
EventLog.log
Resident.log
FilterEngine.log
SecureLine.log
Chest.log
Which logfile would have information about the event that produced the dialogue box in the attached image?
