Don´t get Update-Messages (Pop-Up) ?

Hello,

first of all excuse my terrible english.

My Problem is that i dont get Messages about new Updates (Version 9).
In the older Version 8, i got a Pop-Up that informed me that a Update has been done.

I deactivated Stream-Updates cause I dont wanna have a constantly connection to the server.
I mean the function Automatic Updates should be safe enough.

Do anyone have the same Problem or has a solution ?

Thanks

I deactivated Stream-Updates cause I dont wanna have a constantly connection to the server. I mean the function Automatic Updates should be safe enough.
you then get the updates much later ..... instead of almost instant protection for a new discovered infection

Sure that is not the problem, I do get Updates,
but i dont get a Pop-Up-Message which shows me that the Update has been done.

as long as you recive updates i would say that is a minor bug…

have you tried to repair avast from ad/remove programs > avast > uninstall > repair option …wait a minute and reboot
if this is a program bug i guess a update will be released later

I repaired it right now. Will see if it works.

Okay, nothing works. No Pop-Up´s and no sounds. We will see when it´s fixed.

Im experiencing the same.

Maybe it is intended behavour.

HI Get a FB popup saying about FB privacy but I get no sound at all. My speakers work though Avast free 2014 lasted version installed.

here is a picture of the popup

I too am having this issue - I guess it’s a know bug - that hopefully will be fixed soon

Win XP avast free

The only pop-up I have seen is about FB Privacy

Clicking on settings > Statistics > Component Status = Says Updates received last 24 hours = 244
So at least know it’s been updating with streaming updates

And clicking on manual update virus definitions seems to work OK

But haven’t seen any pop-up that says your virus definitions have been updated

I have done tried all the suggestions - repair - Uni-stall - Re-install still have the problem with no pop-ups

Steve

Okay, enough is enough. I tested avast 9 one and a half week and decided to go back to 8.0.1497.
See us in a year or so when we can say it works all fine.

Hello all.

A possible solution.

When I first updated to free Avast 2014 I found, rather like yourselves, that when I received virus definition updates an information pop-up appeared rather than the expected one - ‘Your virus definitions have been updated’. I therefore found the settings for the pop-ups and changed the duration of the information pop-up to ‘0’ in the hope of forcing Avast to use a different pop-up. A little later a Ireceived an updated accompanied by a virus definitions update pop-up, which is no longer green, but as I recall black and white much like the rest of the user interface; although when the pop-up appeared I was listening music on my laptop through headphones I am pretty certain I heard the expected voice with the pop-up. This pop-up behaviour has continued since, although I have not been at the computer each time the update came and so cannot be certain.

For those of you who may not have found the pop-up settings yet the path is (from the main panel): Settings/Appearance: POPUPS.

I hope that helps.

Changing the popup duration to 0 means “maximum/unlimited” lowest time set is 1.

Try updating to the latest update 9.0.2008 and see if that helps.

craigb, hi.

I think you may have misunderstood my message: I was saying that following the change I made to the info pop-up setting (from 20 to 0) I had stopped receiving the info pop-ups at the time an update was received and was now receiving the expected virus definitions update pop-up instead accompanied by the voice: this has just happened again and this time - because I was not unlike before listening to music in my headphones - I heard the female voice clearly.

Perhaps this change in the behaviour of the pop-ups following the change I made to the pop-up settings is a mere coincidence, but given the experience of other users that I read about this would be surprising. Feedback on this from someone who has made the same changes as I would be interesting and perhaps help someone else.

There are many such posts in the forums relating to setting the duration to 0 only to find that it doesn’t close, rather than not appear.

It has been confirmed from one of the avast team that 0=stays open until closed by the user (infinity) and not doesn’t appear. However, this statement pre-dates the latest avast version updates.

So I think that this may be more of a fortunate coincidence rather than design.

EDIT: Checking the new UI 9.0.2008, if you try to change the values to 0 it is flagged Red and a Red border, presumably to state it is an invalid value.
