don't know what to do with this

i’m just helping out a friend. She recently installed Avast! free 2015 version and after the scan and restarted the laptop, the screen went black. She tried safe mode and restarted again… the screen was perfectly fine but none of the browsers worked.

will uninstalling the app solve this problem?

Pardon my bad grammar… but please help us :-[

She recently installed Avast! free 2015 version
did you uninstall previous used or factory installed antivirus before installing avast?

did you use that vendors removel tool to remove all leftover files that may conflict?

removal tools https://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/

What antivirus software did she use before going with Avast! Free 2015? But before doing this step.

First off, do a repair of avast? If it doesn’t work do the following below:

-Uninstall Avast Free 2015 via add/remove and follow the instructions, then download avast uninstall utility (this tool will ask if you want to run this tool in safe mode) click on yes and this tool will automatically run your computer in safe-mode and follow the instructions).

  • What ever antivirus she used prior to Avast! 2015, search and download her previous antivirus removal tool located here https://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/ and manually run the computer in safe mode and run the tool (follow the instructions).

  • Download and install a fresh new copy of avast. Once installed it will do a quick start up scan and once that is finished restart your computer manually and register her copy of Avast.

Hope it helps!

she once had Smadav before this and she uninstalled the AV already. I made sure that there’s no more leftovers of the previous AV in the registry.

thanks for the suggestion
i was going to uninstall it… but beforehand, i want to ask something.
when i opened the virus chest, i saw many files from system32. They’re labeled as virus Win32:vitro or something like that. So, is it okay to uninstall it just like that? will it affect the system or windows?

sorry if my question sounds silly :-[

The Win32:vitro was a file infecter, did you have a prior problem with this file infecter ?
See https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=42709.0 for more on win32:vitro.

Detection of files in the system32 folder and sent to the avast chest, if valid files from system32, they would generally have had an impact if they were legit and in the avast chest.

If the detections on these files in the virus chest are old and there has been no adverse effect since they were sent to the chest - then they should be ok to let them be removed during the uninstall.

You could confirm they are still detected ad infected by scanning them in the avast chest.
