But ever since new 5.1 update, I’ve not been able to use Avast, all programs stopped working…I uninstall avast and all programs work, install Avira and everything fine, remove and try AVG, everything fine, removed avg and re install avast…Still all programs don’t work!!!Running windows Vista
Make sure you remove avira and avg fully by removal tools? Which version of avast are you using?
I did, used revo uninstaller and ran reg cleaner to make sure nothing left behind, Avast 5.1.889 but i’m back to avira for now…FRUSTATING…i’ve been using avast for a while now, put on my daughters laptop, my moms laptop and those installed clean and running fine! used avg removal tool, i can’t get the avira removal to work but revo works great
I have the same prougram. it’s a bug.
Hi, sooners2win
Probably some of your programs are conflicting with avast!.
Do you have any security software(anti-virus,anti-malware,firewall, etc) installed other than avast?
Malwarebytes and pc tools threatfire but malwarebytes i use as on demand scanner only no real time
Security software cannot be uninstalled using third-party tools like Revo. Instead they are designed to be removed by their vendor’s uninstaller tools. Therefore you most likely have remnants (left overs) in your machine conflicting causing your problems.
Here are the vendor’s uninstaller tools. I suggest that you run each one separately with a reboot in between.
AVG: http://www.avg.com/us-en/download-tools
Avira RegistryCleaner: http://www.avira.com/en/support-download-avira-registrycleaner
How to Remove Antivir Antivirus: http://www.pchell.com/virus/uninstallantivir.shtml
Uninstall Avira Antivir Completely:

Since most likely Avast has been corrupted, you can try an Avast Repair:
- Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > Avast Antivirus.
- Scroll down and choose Repair function in the pop-up window.
- Reboot.
If the Avast Repair does not fix your problem after doing the previous uninstalls described above, then I recommend uninstalling Avast using the Avast uninstall utility tool and doing a clean install:
- Save a copy of Avast 5.1.889 for the product you need and save it to your HDD:
Free: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_av_free.exe
Pro: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_av_pro.exe
AIS: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_ais.exe
2. Download the Avast Uninstall Utility http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for all Avast versions and products).
3. Disconnect from the Internet at this time.
4. Go to Control Panel and uninstall Avast through Add/Remove Programs if possible and reboot.
5. If Step 4 fails, boot into Safe Mode (hit F8 repeatedly) and run the Avast Uninstall Tool.
6. Reboot.
7. Install the newest version of Avast and reboot.
8. Get Internet access and register your copy or add the license key for Free, Pro, or AIS.
9. Update the Avast definitions.
Let us know how this works for you. Thank you.
Threatfire is same as Avast! Behavior shield but I don’t know whether these two programs conflict each other or not.
They might. But first the OP(s) need to makes sure they remove remnants from their machines. Then we can work on conflicting software, which is a good possibility.
Ok, before I tried these other AV’s, I had Avast always worked fine then 5.1 update, Crash!!! Can’t get it to work since, so I don’t think anything of mine is conflicting
Did you have Threatfire before 5.1 and after?
Yessir, worked just fine
So Threatfire and Avast became a problem after you installed v.5.1.889…correct? Did you try uninstalling Avast and reinstalling it without the Behavior Shield?
Both avast and ThreatFire trash user-mode dlls with splicing, so probably whichever one starts last will fail, as it will be unable to hook trashed functions.
Threatfire and Avast’s Behavior Shield act in similar ways. That is why I was suggesting that you uninstall Avast (using the Avast uninstall utility tool), then reinstall Avast without the Behavior Shield and see if this fixes your problem. This way, you won’t have 2 programs conflicting with each other. Let me know if this fixes your problem.
Let me know if you have any questions. Thank you.
I’m back in business, I guess it was the threatfire, i removed AVG via remover and threatfire via remover. Reinstalled avast and boom, everything working great! I’m actually surprised that i kind of enjoyed AVG while testing during this problem, but glad to be back with avast!!! Thanks for your help!
You’re very welcome. I’m glad things are back up and running again.
