don't mind this post

When running a thorough scan of my hard drive C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\integ\avast.int was identified as a Win32:FakeAV-XP [Trj], is this a false alarm? If I did my research correctly this is the VRDB file, it is 25.0 MB, should I just delete and make a new one?

Sorry, almost positive this is a false reading, scanned file with Malwarebytes and got nothing, and it is very good at detecting trojans. I just overreacted. :-[

The VRDB database doesn’t contain complete files, but information on them which is used to try and repair the original file (so far that reason alone I would say FP). So it is possible that it could contain a string of characters that matches a virus signature.

Have you in the recent past had an alert on a file other than this one, which was for Win32:FakeAV-XP [Trj], if so it could be that before updates to the VPS this file had been scanned by the VRDB and information included in the avast.int.

You could have avast delete it (don’t know if it would be able to get round the self-defence module though) and then run the Generate VRDB again. Though for me, given this is now old technology and won’t be in version 5.0 when released, you could leave it disabled.
