Hello and wellcome to the forum

What others programs do you mean ?

Is there a blue icon in the system tray?

Welcome to the Forum
What you should see in your system tray is
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v190/bob3160/Avasta.jpg
and possibly
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v190/bob3160/AvastVRDB.jpg
. the last one can be hidden.
If you don’t see the first icon, you might want to DOWNLOAD RejZor Avast External Control (AEC)

Once you have the program installed, run it and select avast! Tweeker and click on GO and then make sure the show tray icon box is checked (Select anything else that
might interest you and then click on apply.

yes in the system tray its not there and was before

Did you tried what bob said ?

yes i tried did not work?

Open the Avast folder (normally is in the Programs folder) and find the icon you need. Now copy the exe file (related to the icon) in the Start folder (maybe the All User or the “Yourname” folder). Close the system and restart. If you don’t have results, please write again and I will help you with a little Registry string customization.

thanks that didnt work either.

What do you mean? If you execute ashDisp.exe the icon does not appear on the system tray? Isn’t it hidden (XP)?

Click on start and then follow the picture:

thanks still not working i dont understand they were both there yesterday the a and the i icons. it shows in my settings that avast is running

An alwil website search, found the following:

Q: The blue ball icons have disappeared from my system tray. How to get them back there?

A: If you´re using Windows XP, the icons are probably hidden. In that case right-click on your Taskbar and choose Properties. A dialog box “Taskbar and Start menu properties” would appear. Then uncheck Hide inactive icons check box.

If you´re not using Windows XP, OR if the previous solution doesn’t fix the problem, run the ashDisp.exe program (it´s in C:\PROGRAM FILES\ALWIL SOFTWARE\AVAST4 directory). It should bring the icons up again. If they disappear after restart again, make a shortcut to the ashDisp.exe file in your Start-up folder

Is the same method I said in my previous response, remember? But you say is not good for your problem.

ADDED: now I salute you, because in Italy is early morning and I’m going to my workplace. Good Luck.

yes i needed more detailed info thanks for your help and looking forward to talk more in the future. Bob.

Start repairing your installation:
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair). You must be connected to the internet while repairing.

If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?
