I’m about to purchase a license for my antivirus and have noticed that serves to 3 computers, Does this mean I can use the same license to activate the antivirus in 3 different computers, whether they are in different places?

It depends on what application you are going to purchase ?
The stand alone avast 5.0 antivirus is a single license for a single system. If you choose the Avast! Internet Security suite (avast pro, firewall and anti-spam modules) I believe this license for installation on up to 3 systems, see image and http://www.avast.com/en-gb/internet-security.
I think the license terms for the “free” version allow to install on as many computers as you own, behind a same router, as long as it’s not for professional/commercial use…not a hundred percent sure, may be it’s just two or three systems, which is already cool, considering how complete the V5 free version is.
I plan on buying the version “internet security” if it is for 3 computers!

Yes, that version is for 3 systems there may well still be an offer price on it, there was on that page I gave a link to.
