OK, getting ready to uninstall Avast. But won’t that leave the computer wide open for attack?
Do you really think that malware only waits for you to turn off your protection so it can get in? It doesn’t work like that. Just uninstall it and don’t worry.

Avast is uninstalled. What next? Try to reinstall it?
CORRECTION: I’m not sure if it’s uninstalled or not. There’s a Windows Security Alert that says: “Malware Protection: Check Settings. Virus Protection: Not Compatible. avast Antivirus is on but is reporting its status to Windows Security Center in a format that is no longer supported. Use the program’s automatic updating feature, or contact the program manufacturer for an updated version.”
Right now, there is NO avast icon in the tray.
The internet situation still seems to be exactly the same. Cannot access Avast website or any other antivirus website…

Are all windows updates installed ?
What exact version of avast is installed ?
All windows updates were installed - UP UNTIL 3 days ago when this problem first started (after registering/updating to Avast 2015). Now, Windows update encounters an “unknown error” and can’t even connect. Avast was subsequently uninstalled yesterday (see previous posts).
And when I just looked at “Review Your Update History”, it doesn’t show ANY updates: “You have not tried to install any updates for your computer.”
And yet, when you look at “Installed Updates”, there are LOTS of them listed thru 12/10/2015. Go figure…

I’d love to, but as previously mentioned, I cannot connect to the Avast website - or any other antivirus-type website. However, I can still connect to NON-antivirus websites (like Yahoo, Google and Facebook). So the internet connection is still there. It’s just limited to certain websites…
And sorry, yes I meant 2016. It updated and after that, problems started…
