Download error

Hello folks. I wonder if anyone can help a new member?

Avast 4 Home has worked well until the last few days. I am now getting a message which reads:

"Avast! Information

An error has occurred while attempting to update!

When I clck the red panel it coyly hides itself behind the taskbar.

What is your internet connection type dial-up or broadband ?
When does this error occur, just after boot, when ?

Have you tried a manual update and does this work ?

Hello DavidR. Thanks for your response.

I am using a broadband connection. The error occurs randomly, apparently when the machine is checking for automatic update. I don’t initiate it.

I have tried manual update and get the following message:-

Can’t install VPS Update.

Please report the following error codes.
Ver 4.7.942

SI: 0x00000002
ST: 0x00000002
LE: 0x00000000

Thanks

Appleman

The reason I asked about if it happens close to boot as there is away to delay the check. Your problem looks like it is more than that.

What version of avast are you using, the current one is 4.7.942 (see about avast) ?

I think the 0x00000002 is “The system cannot find the file specified.” Try a repair of avast. Add

Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this.
If that doesn’t work try, uninstall, reboot, install, reboot.

It would probably be best to download the latest version of avast and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you reinstall.
