Hi!
I installed the avast home 4 under XP. Then i coluldn’t send e-mails and download anything from the internet.
I uninstalled the avast, but the downloading problem remains. What can I do?

Disable your firewall and try again.
Check your proxy settings.
Check your hosts file for bad entries.

Hhhm. I don’t know what means bad entries in my host. I don’t have proxy settings, because I don’t use proxy (proxy is only for dial-up connection if I know). I have internet through cable.
I installed firefox, and now I can download files, but flash doesn’t work yet.

What do you mean with “flash”?
Do you mean the flashbrowser?
If so check the settings.
proxy is only for dial-up connection if I know
Proxy can be used with every connection.
(defination of proxy)

Okay. So, the avast set my proxy settings or something else. How can I get the original settings?

No, Avast does not change your proxy settings.
It is you who set them or another application (could be malware).
The last program update (official release, not a beta) is 4.5.542 and fixes many of the earlier problems. Just invoke program update: right click the avast icon > Updating > Program Update.
Can you post if it corrects your problem?

It’s like deja vu all over again. I still can’t download either unless I uninstall Avast! and the latest BETA 4.5.536 update gives me a BSOD with the following error message:
aswTdi.sys - Address F7A11928 base at F7A0E000, DateStamp 41a610ff
I was advised that this is firewall related but when I disable Windows XP Service Pack 2 firewall, nothing changes.
This is really disappointing as I’ve used Avast! for quite awhile and recommend it to everyone I know. I even just installed it on my parent’s machine. I can’t get it to work on my own… shrugs

there is a new update out today have you tried it?

I’d recommend to uninstall the current version, reboot, download the latest version from the download section of our website and install it.
Please let us know if that solves the problem.
thanks

Version 4.5.542 gives me another BSOD. I liked it better when all it did was block downloads/streaming/email.

are there error messages associated with the BSOD?

Or rather - are there any corresponding dumps in the Minidump folder of your OS? If yes, could you send them to Vlk’s e-mail?

Similar to the BETA…
aswTdi.sys - Address F79B9827 base at F79B6000, DateStamp 41ab551c
I’m not exactly sure what you mean by a dump file. I have a minidump folder with several files in it, I’m assuming you mean the most recently dated one?

Right. The minidump file is created during the crash - i.e. its date/time should match the crash as well. The most recent file should be the one.
