I installed avast v4.6 home on my pc a while ago and it will not let me update, my current Virus database is 0608-1 23/02/06 and whenever I try to update the program stops responding, any suggestions or is the programme corrupt, and am also running AVG is this a conflict,

Also avast seems to have disappeared from the taskbar and is not running in the background
It is not recommended to have two resident AVs installed on the same system, avast may not fully install to avoid any potential conflict.
The missing icon from the system tray is also an indication of possible conflict.
I would start by uninstalling AVG, reboot, uninstall avast, reboot and install avast again and check if this resolves the problem of the missing icon and the update problem.
