Hi to all esp at Avast team

though generally I’m satisfied with anti-virus protection I have some issues which probably could make avast better

1 size of programs and virus definition file becoming bigger and bigger. but quality of download server leave much to be desired - often it doesn’t continue download and restart it again and again.

for example I have satellite Vsat unlimited connection which is cutting speed after dowloading 20 MB but lately only after 10 MB. It means I need to make pauses to regain speed.

Just now I was trying to download VPSupd.exe file which weights more than 60 MB, but on reaching some 56MB I again made pause but on restart avast is having me to download from 0 MB yet again. And such problem happens all the time.

2 Maybe size of program file & VPS updates and ordinary daily updates could be made smaller by avast to manageable size under 30MB? Maybe use of another stronger archivator?

I’d very glad is my suggestion will be realized by otherwise excellent antivirus.

Ofcourse they are. More detections are added to the vps. Better detection is added to the application.

That isn't a problem with the avast server but with your system

have your provider solve the problem(s). There is nothing avast can do about it.

I don’t know whether you work at avast or just enthusiast but my suggestion was to avast, to use better archivator or lose customers, not only me, but I know many others will switch to another antivirus provider if avast won’t handle bigger and bigger size of its programs and updates.

other programs I know keep size of their files under control. avast files grew out of control.

as for download server - it’s not my problem but avast servers problem not restarting interrupted download - with other downloads I have no problem but with avast I have such problem.

avast should fix their servers

There is no problem with the avast servers, it is your system and/or your provider that causes the problem.
It is your system/browser that needs to request a restart.
If it doesn’t a server is never automatically gonna resume a download that you requested.

The vps as well as the installers are already (highly) compressed.
Making them smaller means lesser detection.

Just tried to download vps update 70 megabytes. After reaching 22 megabytes I made pause then on restart avast server again started loading from 0.

As I have latest Yandex chromium based browser, and never had any such problems downloading files and programs from other websites root of problem on avast side, not mine.

Problem not solved apparently and it leads to dissatisfaction with avast. I am hopeful avast team which otherwise doing great job with free antivirus will look into the matter.

Just tested it and there was no problem at all with the download.

Did you try to make pause download then restart again? Just now my 2nd attempt to download vps update on my smartphone (cause on computer it’s difficult) ended in failure , on reaching 94% avast server didn’t reply long then finally replied but on reaching 100% downloaded file wasn’t confirmed.

well I downloaded VPS update but it’s useless as when I press exe file it shows this error: “cannot open SFX archive. Installer cannot run”

anyone knows how I can update virus database offline?

AVAST overall turns absolutely insane giving me so much headache and wasting so much time and traffic (very expensive in my place) so really question of new antivirus comes to my mind
