Downloaded Avast antivirus and lost network connection icon at bottom of screen

I downloaded Avast (free) antivirus program and now the network connection symbol / icon that shows the internet connection (local / local & internet) at the bottom right of the screen has gone ! As far as I know I did nothing to make this happen.

Does anyone know why this has happened and how I can get it back? I right-clicked on where it used to be and clicked on ‘properties’ and ‘notification area’ and where it says ‘clock, volume, network, power’ the network tick box is grayed out so I can’t even select it !

Has this happened to anyone else and what did you do about it ?

Hmm… Strange behaviour.
Restart your machine…!

I tried restarting computer and the network icon was still missing

…so I uninstalled Avast, reinstalled it and hey presto, the network icon is back

…computers can be akin to witchcraft :smiley:

John, how did you uninstall your previous antivirus and what was it?
What is your firewall?
