Morning,
Yesterday I posted on this forum about the problems Avast 6 was causing on my machine. Well after several uninstalls and re-installs the problems kept happening. So I finally installed 5.0.594 and my laptop is back to working just fine. But this isn’t the last version of Avast 5, where can I download the last version Avast Free Antivirus 5.1.889?

Why don’t you try the latest 6.0.1000 version instead?
I spent a lot of time yesterday trying to get 6.0.1000 working. I posted here yesterday about problems like freezing, hanging during a shutdown, and stopping browsers (Seamonkey and Internet Explorer) from loading. I’m a grad student and I need this machine, so I went back and installed the last version of Avast 5 I had on my drive. I think its best for me to stay with Avast 5 till all the bugs are worked out with Avast 6. So I’d like to run at least the last version of Avast 5.
It sounds like a conflict with something that’s running on your system.
BTW you can get any of the earlier versions e.g. from http://filehippo.com/download_avast_antivirus/
