Downloads & Installs of Windows XP Mode on W7 fails

Has this problem (by Saulius) from last year been solved?

Without a link to the older thread, I don’t know what has been discussed there. So forgive me if this repeats what’s already been said:

  1. You must have Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate to run Windows XP Mode.
i.e., it does not run on Starter nor Home versions.

  2. Since XP Mode runs “within a virtual partition using hardware virtualisation”, you need to have — and enable — adequate hardware. The simplest way to guarantee this is to have a vPro rated CPU, since vPro chips “are required to have an Intel VT capable CPU and Intel VT capable BIOS”. And stress that, you (probably) have to enter the BIOS to enable this feature.
