This morning at startup my machine reported natspeak.exe (my Dragon install) as a virus and put it in the chest. The software is at least a year old and (as far as I know) hasnt been updated since (Nuance/Dragon dont updates on their old version)

Restoring from the chest doesnt fix the problem but I am concerned and dont know what to do next. Is this a false positive? Is my machine infected and only Dragon affected? (got a scan running now but it was clean on Sunday)

Anyone else got problems?

for the record this is a Win 7 Pro 64 bit machine

what does avast detect it as …malware name given?
have you tested the file at www.virustotal.com

You can report the issue here: http://www.avast.com/contact-form.php (select subject according to your case)
you may add a link to this topic in case they reply here

Virus reports as Win32:evo-gen (Susp) in Avast

since posting yes I have tested the file at Virustotal.com

it comes up with one detection from VBA32 for backdoor.prorat

I am now assuming my machine is compromised

probably fixed by tomorrow ;)

I am Dyslexic. I am currently using Dragon Naturally Speaking to fight for my job and consequently, my family home.

Dose anyone from Avast check this forum?

What did Avast do with natspeak.exe?

How do I reinstate it?

Desperately seeking resolution.

Hi Glas Maol - I know how you feel, my PC is critical to running my business and feeding my kids - loosing Dragon was bad but thinking I might have a compromised machine (when I try real hard to be so careful) was terrifying

what has worked for me is going to the Avast software user interface - click Maintenance tab - click Virus Chest

you will see the file there - right click and “restore”

this failed 3 times but it did work a few minutes ago, so maybe Avast has updated its virus definitions

LittleSkink, you truly are a beautiful person! The old right right click trick… why didn’t I think of that one? The exe file reappeared.

Dragon NS still didn’t work, however, the exe being reinstates let me do an reinstall. I’m am currently doing the 11.5 update.

Your intervention may well mean that I will manage to make next months mortgage payment!

Many thanks!

DK.
