Driver Help

I recently reformated my hard-drive, upon installing all the drivers, i had trouble with installing a version of an intel graphics media accelerator (recommended by driveragent.com) an error message told me that my laptop did not meet the required specifications, i later found that i did not have a recent enough chipset needed to install the graphics accelerator. How do i update my chipset?

I have a…
sony vaio laptop (VGN-FS415E)
windows XP service pack 2

Simply said - You don’t. You can not upgrade your chipset, laptops are not that friendly when it comes to upgrading your hardware. You have to use what you already have and you have to install specific drivers only for your type of hardware. If your laptop’s chipset doesn’t support something, you have to stay away from it.

If you bought it directly from Sony, you had to get installation and recovery disks with it… your original drivers must be on those disks. Even if they are not the latest version (which is the case, 99%), at least they will work perfectly and they were made exactly for your card (that’s integrated Video card).

Your best option is to go to Sony web site, and search for support (drivers, applications, utilities). If you’re still unable to find anything, your best bet is to contact Sony technical support (you can do that over email I guess). Giving them info about your laptop model number, serial number and some other info, they will be able to help you in no time…

Cheers!

EDIT:

Quick searching through VAIO site gives you exactly what you need (look at the bottom of the list, there are all drivers you’ll ever need)… exactly your model of the laptop and exactly the OS you are running - WinXP:

If you still looking for something that’s recommended somewhere else, other than Sony site, well those information can easily be anything but helpful to you… sometimes it’s better not to experiment too much, use those drivers that work 100%.

And ? Did this help with your problem ? Some feedback is always much appreciated since it can also help some other people having similar problems…

I think he didn’t read your post yet Sasha, look under his profile and time last active … Seems he went off-line before you posted.

I fully agree with SasH. Don’t mess with your hardware drivers in a laptop. Better stay with working non-updated drivers than can’t boot/load something. The recovery disks are the most common solution.
Welcome to avast forums.

Fully agree… however, keep in mind that user doesn’t have to log back in to be able to read posts and replies.
