Driver max

Just had an interesting experience with this

I updated my copy via a programme update
Without my knowledge AVG secure search was installed
This changed my Home page
Replaced Google with AVG as my search engine
Disabled Webshield
And whilst it was set I was unable to visit the forum (coincidence ???)
All this after I uninstalled it

Out came my trusty OTL to remove the rest of the rubbish
Methinks I will cease using DriverMax

So be cautious - and I thought I was savvy

You can also read about an unhappy customer here:

Now I know what caused my search provider to change…
I happen to own the pro version but it wasn’t installed on that partition.
I’d call that dirty pool. >:(

@ essexboy
It would be interesting if you could run it in a virtual machine/sandbox and follow exactly what it does.

Good thought I will flash up my XP and try to trace the changes

Just noticed this:

OK traced I will analyse it tomorrow ;D

It actually turns out to be a selective install that was overlooked.

Yes don’t you just hate those optout pre-selected options (take note avast, with chrome browser) :stuck_out_tongue:

In my case when I very briefly installed it recently when you recommended it, I luckily did manage to see the prompt for the optional AVG Secure Search. It didn’t appear to change any Settings on my computer.

I did find 2 AVG Resgistry Entries recently with either JetClean or Glary Utilities, but I’m virtually certain those were no doubt left over from the previous owner of this computer. She used to have AVG in it when she gave it to me 2 or so years ago.
