DriveSentry

Anyone tried DriveSentry with Avast? I read about it in Wilders Security Forum and it seems to be well liked there, as is Avast. http://www.drivesentry.com/

Man… I couldn’t even found how much it costs, if it is only on-demand or on-access…
You need to watch the video installation to discover it’s a 30 day shareware…
Not too encouraging eh? :stuck_out_tongue:

DriveSentry and Avast work fine together. DriveSentry works after the 30 days but some features stop. I’m told by their support people that a free version is released next week. :o

thanks Jack

Well, let’s wait… what is it exactly? An antimalware? A zero-day attack tool? HIPS?
Something like ThreatFire?

DriveSentry has the following features:

A Real-time and on-demand malware scanner (database is 1.1 million signatures)
Whitelisting and community application access.
Heuristic and behavioral technology like Threatfire.
“Firewalls” memory, file and registry access.
Protects removable drives as they’re connected to a system.
Very light on system resources (1.5mb download)

Thanks Jack.

Bit the bullet and installed it. A little too early to tell perhaps, but so far DriveSentry is running well with Avast Home and Online Armor Personal on my Windows XP. Seems very light and offers a lot of information as to what all it is protecting.

Sounds very similar to Threatfire but with extra features.

Does it really scan for malware in real-time? I didn’t see that on the spec sheet and it would conflict with any other real-time scanner.

Yes it does background scanning but it can be switched off in the options screen.

thanks Jack.

Which features do we ‘lose’ when the 30 days period expire?

I see someone already answered, but here’s a thread from Wilders started by a rep from DriveSentry who also states it has both an on demand virus scanner and a real-time virus scanner and a lot of other info about it.

Hi,

DriveSentry was suggested to me from a good friend. Was getting massive problems with Norton 360. I took my friends advice, uninstalled Norton and put on DriveSentry and so far it hasn’t let me down. You think i need to use something else as well as this software? help please???

thanks ETTE :-\

Well… Norton360 is a big suite (with firewall, antispam, antivirus and so on).
DriveSentry could only do a very small part of all of it. You can compare apples with oranges…
Besides, I think the performance with Norton360 and DriveSentry will be very poor.

installed it and seems to be working fine…can’t wait till the free version…no conflict with avast! or pctool firewall or anything as of yet ::slight_smile: ???
