Drop Box

Has anyone used Drop Box?
Any problems with it?
Or any raves about it?

Recently I was having problems downloading two MP3s that I had just uploaded to my MyOpera Files. Some friends recommended Drop Box. I read a little bit about it and it seems to claim that it doesn’t have the problems that other Online File Storage Services have with big Files.

Okay, actually it’s NOT that I couldn’t download those two MP3s per se.
I COULD if I did a straight Right Click Download.
The problem I was experiencing was that unlike with previous MP3s, this time around when I clicked on the link to the MP3s from my MyOpera Files … the default Quick Time Player that pops up on my Opera Browser when I click on an Audio Link, seemed to never finish the download process. It would download the MP3, then restart downloading again … and again.

I was going to try out Drop Box Portable, but have since then found out that 2 different Drop Box Portables have ceased operations. So, if I’m gonna try Drop Box, it’ll have to be the regular Desktop version.

I already have the Drop Box Setup File downloaded. I just haven’t pulled the trigger on installing it.

Dropbox is fairly good.
I use it on a day-to-day basis and it only gets better recently. The only problem you may encounter is syncing files outside of the Dropbox folder. Answer to this is to use symlinks or shortcuts. The rest is extremely easy.

I use dropbox all the time

good for pics, random files that you can easily share.

I don’t have the desktop version, but just upload them via the browser…

I tried the portable version a while ago, and had troubles with it…it hooks explorer to add an entry to the context menu and to remove it, you have to restart explorer…

I’m not even sure what this “syncing files” thing is.

I just basically want to be able to upload my MP3s in what I guess would be the Public Folder.
I would then just provide the links in my Blog to those MP3s.
Just like I had done with my previous MP3s that I have stored in my MyOpera Files.

Do I understand correctly that I’d have to first Sign Up to the Service … THEN install the software?

You can do it in any order, you can sign up via the application itself.

A little off topic
I hope these MP3’s are original files. Sharing any other types can cause lots of grief.

Chim, I’ve used DropBox when I were managing two computers.
Right now, I’m using only one and don’t need it.
Good application though.

Thanks for the feedback & Info, Scott, Slayer, Tech!
I just might pull the trigger and install it sometime between later today and the weekend.

Bob, those MP3s are solid originals.
It’s just me … my 1-Man Band on my Casio Keyboard performing what I call my "Mini Concerts. ;D
So, there should be no problems there.

  1. Dropbox will allow you to do just that. I use it on my blog to share files.

  2. Create a dropbox account, using the software is optional. Dropbox can be accessed using your browser.

  3. You are at work with your laptop and have the dropbox client running. If you upload a file to your dropbox folder, your home PC will automatically download the files you uploaded. This of course assumes your PC is up and running with the dropbox client. Hence, files are synced between your PCs running the dropbox client.

Will we be able to access them ???

Heyyyyy! You could host my Mini Concerts in your Shared Files, Bob!
Then I wouldn’t need Drop Box. ;D

Nah! Just Kidding.

Okay, since you inquired, I’ll IM you the links to my Blog and Mini Concerts.
It’s only 4 Mini Concerts to date.
I don’t know if this level of awesomeness is legal in Arizona, but we’ll find out. ;D

Thanks Chim,
I’ve sent you a reply.
