I noticed that Duck Duck Go will be a search engine “option” and not
the default search engine.
Personally that doesn’t bother me in the slightest - so long as the user can choose what search engine they want.
Hi DavidR,
This only means it is added to the full choice range and you can pick your default search engine from the range offered.
I mostly use the google search page because it has just the flaw of results I am accustomed to and my web rep extensions report on this page:
avast, Bitdefender’s TrafficLight, DrWeb url checker, WOT.
With duck duck go I do not have that,

I generally use Yahoo (UK), it is quite good with the results being relevant to the search.
I stopped using Google, not because of any concern over privacy, but because my search settings were frequently ignored or not loaded.
Hi DavidR,
But I thought that Yahoo hadn’t the best of search engine reputation seen to pop-ups and browser searchpage hijacking and redirects (e.g. spigot.yahoo). I think in the realm of intrusion a combination of NoScript/RequestPolicy, ABP and sandboxie is your best first-line defense combination.

I’ll stick with Google.
Never had any hassle (popups, redirects or hijacks) when using Yahoo search.
Don’t forget DropMyRights (yet another fall back) that I use for all internet facing applications on this XP system ;D
Hi DavidR,
How could I forget that rule, rather ever do I use my full admin account.
“DropMyRights” was the first thing I heard entering these forums. ;D
Oh and let us not forget about bob3160’s Golden Rule:
“Whenever in slightest doubt about something in the browser, check and re-check.”

Whether you choose to use Google, Yahoo or any other search engine the fact that Firefox
is allowing the user to choose goes to show how flexible Firefox is. Yes, I know with Chrome
the user also has the right to select their own default search engine. With FF this can be done
using the customize hamburger then drag and drop the search box to the GUI. This is something
Chrome does not do.
Additional: Duck Duck Go is already available for Chrome through the Chrome Web Store.
I certainly wouldn’t consider it hard to change the default search engine in chrome:
