Is there any way to tell avast, to skip the toolbar.dll of the Duden internet explorer toolbar?
Yes there is, but you should first confirm the detection one way or another.
You could also check the offending/suspect file at: VirusTotal - Multi engine on-line virus scanner and report the findings here. You can’t do this with the file securely in the chest, you need to extract it to a temporary (not original) location first, see below.
Create a folder called Suspect in the C:\ drive, e.g. C:\Suspect. Now exclude that folder in the Standard Shield, Customize, Advanced, Add, type (or copy and paste) C:\Suspect* That will stop the standard shield scanning any file you put in that folder. You should now be able to export any file in the chest to this folder and upload it to VirusTotal without avast alerting.
If it is indeed a false positive, e.g. avast (and GData) is the only scanner detecting it, see http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=34950.msg293451#msg293451, how to report it to avast! and what to do to exclude them until the problem is corrected.
Same problem here. I can’t even download the installation file because Avast kills it before it’s saved on the harddisk. Talked to the Duden software support and they told me it’s an Avast prob. So how do we go further from here? Until we had the server/client installation everything was fine, but since the workstation got upgraded the Duden toolbar is no longer available although it’s the same version as before. Help, please!
Pausing the Web Shield would allow it to be downloaded, however, the standard shield would alert when the download completes.
Chose No Action or Send to chest in the alert and upload the file to virustotal as the above suggestion. Clearly the original poster didn’t do that because if it were a false positive (as Duden seem to believe) then it should have been submitted to avast for analysis and correction. avast are generally very quick to correct an FP, but they first have to know about it.
Once you manage t download it please try to follow the above instructions.
