Duplication of protection on second PC

I am running the latest version of Avast on this PC with the latest definitions. I have a different backup PC which also has Avast but by now is very much outdated due to lack of use over several months. Both are XP desktops which can be plugged in - alternatively - to the same home internet connection.

What is the procedure to follow and what are the possible complications if I want to bring my AV on the second machine up to date as with the first?

  • problem with “dual identities”? Should I re-register as a new identity but with the same internet address and email?

  • lack of protection against latest viruses whilst the new data is being downloaded and updated? I have Comodo personal firewall on both machines but again this will not be the latest version on the second machine.

  • could I copy the current Avast exe files (if I can find them) onto a portable drive and transfer onto the second PC, or is that needlessly complicated?

  2. download and save and run http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility >reboot

  3. install version you selected from #1>reboot

I have a copy of both the uninstall utility and the “free” version on a USB stick.
That way I’m able to install avast on another machine. :slight_smile:

Thanks. I take it that I download both the program version and the uninstall utility onto the “backup” PC? My worry is whether or not I would be vulnerable whilst this was going on as a result of my protection being out of date? If this is a problem I’d have to download to a stick via the up to date PC, and then transfer to the other. If this is not a threat I can save myself the hassle and download direct to the backup PC.

Like I said I have both on a USB stick (flash drive).
The only thing is you either need to register online or via off-line registration http://www.avast.com/registration-free-antivirus.php :slight_smile:

Do I then register using the same or a different (“virtual”?) identity so as not to confuse the system? I can’t remember the exact registering procedure just now but I would use the same email.
