I took backup on a infected computer using DVD-R dvds.
Now I want to reformat that PC, and for that I want to put the content of the DVD-R also on a another PC just in case.
BUT I am not going to OPEN anything. Just transfer, wait, then after a few hours remove everything.
Autorun is disabled. I will go to My Computer then Explore the DVD, drag out all files into desktop, wait… then delete after everything is fixed again.
Is there still any chance of the clean PC getting infected too?
I see no reason for you to do so… If you are preventing a media error (DVD fails), it won’t the the wise thing to do. Just keep the DVD and do not copy everything to another computer.
But if you want to do so, just be sure that your avast is updated and running in the second (clean) computer.
Copy & paste won’t infect your computer as far I know.
I just want to make sure that everything is in the DVD you know. Do you thin maybe I should copy it to the infected computer just to try?
I checked the DVD and it had the exact same size and number of files.
Yeah but there is absolutely no way for any kind of virus etc to be run if you just copy and paste. Virus and those stuff only gets in if you run the file (for example USB viruses, they are “ran” because of autorun, still they are executed) but chances of getting virus through CD like USB is very little especially if you “Explore” the DVD and not open it directly, in case of any autoruns - which is very small because USB and CD do not work the same way. CD, since it’s DVD-R it’s closed once everything is written and everything is written by copy & paste so chance of anything sneaking in silently is very very little.
Especially after I did a virus scan and malwarebytes scan.
