DWGs loading extremely slow after installing AVAST

Hello everyone.

Our entire office have been crippled for some time now due to Autocad allmost randomly hangs or slows down while saving or loading files. It might just be me but somehow it seems that the problem has increased the last weeks to becoming less and less random. Only yesterday I tried shutting AVAST of in pure desperation and VOILA! loading is back to normal. I’ve been searching the forums but cant seem to find any real answers allthough a few similar questions have been posed.
We would really appreciate help with this, any normal workday seems to double when simple file loading takes 3 minutes.

WE ARE RUNNING.
XP SP2
AVAST 4.7 PROFESSIONAL 4.7.871
VPS 2006-08-30 FV. 0635-2
PENTIUM D 3.2GHZ, 2Gb
ADSL WITH ROUTERBASED FIREWALL
NO SPECIFIC EMAIL CLIENT (WEB BASED IMAP)
AVAST IS ONLY SECURITY SOFTWARE
THE BUG APPEARS RANDOMLY WHEN OPENING DWG.S BUT DISSAPEARS INSTANTLY WHEN
AVAST IS DEACTIVATED.
NO WARNING MESSAGES APPEAR.

Best anticipating regards…

OH AND BY THE WAY…
Just noticed that the problem allso goes away when stoping the standard shield in “stop provider”.

If stopping Standard Shield helps (I guess pausing would do as well), it means that avast! is scanning something when DWG files are opened. It is possible that Autocad does some heavy log writing when opening the files…
The important thing is to find out what is being scanned. So, click on the blue avast! tray icon to open the On-Access Scanner console, select the Standard Shield provider (you have to click on “Details” if not already expanded) and watch the “Last scanned” item when opening a DWG file. So, what is there? (If the path is too long and gets clipped, just move your mouse over the text and you’ll see a tooltip.)

Hmm I can’t really add anything, except that I use autocad release 14 almost everyday and do not experience any slow down. I hope you get your problem fixed though. Interruptions in workflow really suck.

Thank you Igor for unbelievably fast response!

OK so now it seems to get a tad complicated,
I’ve fiddled around with this now for a while but I really cant get it right.
First of it appeared as if a really long file path to a rescent folder within the “documents and settings folder” was the culprit but after a while of watching, opening and excluding the specific “docs and sets folder” from scanning without any luck it is still extremely random. At one point i seemed as if Avast took some time scannin a file in its own program directory but i a closer watch exluded that as well.
Another problem in this whole mess is that allthough i excluded the folder AVAST states scanning the folder anyway. I even tried excluding the entire “docs and sets”

As you suspected pausing the provider works as well…

Regards…

I just noticed that the exclusion list dont affect the resident providers…

Any ideas anyone? Im gonna look into the deeper ACAD settings and see if i can find anything there.

Ok, this is the folder that appears to mess things up…

c:\documents and settings\NN\Application Data\Autodesk\autocad 2004\r16.0\enu\recent\select file\A 039A.dwg.ink

For whatever I can get out of it the .ink is an inkremental savefile that cant be turned of.

Would really appreciate further help with this, I’m in a hole here…

OK, we’re getting somewhere
First, there are actually 2 exclusion lists: first in the program settings, which affects the on-demand scanners (such as the Simple User Interface), and the other one in the Standard Shield configuration itself (on the last page of its settings) - which affects the resident protection, obviously.
So, you want to add the appropriate mask into the list of Standard Shield exclusions.

Regarding the mask itself, it could be something like:
c:\documents and settings\NN\Application Data\Autodesk\autocad 2004\r16.0\enu\recent*
or, if you’re sure it’s the .ink files:
c:\documents and settings\NN\Application Data\Autodesk*.ink
or even
*.ink
(or maybe *.dwg.ink)

So, I suggest to try this… and see if it helps.
